Our Story

Hello!
If we haven’t already met, we’re Scott and Jacquie, a husband-and-wife creative team. We’ve been married for 25 years and have four amazing boys, ages 15 to 23. Here’s a little peek into our journey and the heart behind what we do.
Why did we choose to run a small business?
Life is full of unexpected challenges, and sometimes, it asks us to take a leap in a new direction. When two of our sons were born with significant disabilities, we realized that the traditional 9-to-5 wasn’t going to fit our family’s needs. Between medical appointments, therapies, and everyday life, we knew we needed the flexibility to manage it all while still supporting our family. That’s when we decided to build something from home, and Hearth + Cove was born.
Why wood products?
It’s funny how life sometimes brings the right opportunity just when you need it most. At a pivotal moment, a family member had a CNC machine but couldn’t quite get it working. Scott, with his knack for problem-solving, stepped in and got it running. Once he mastered the machine, we were overflowing with ideas. That’s when we knew we had to dive into woodcraft for good, turning that spark of curiosity into a full-blown passion for creating.
What do we love most about our business?
The magic of working together. There’s something special about seeing an idea in our heads turn into a finished product within hours. Even better, we love connecting with our customers at local markets. There’s no greater feeling than watching someone light up when they see one of our pieces in person and knowing that it will become part of their home.
Are there challenges?
Absolutely. While we sell online through Etsy and our website, the unpredictable nature of algorithms can make it tough to keep momentum going. That’s why in-person markets like Christmas at the Forum and the One Of A Kind Show in Toronto are so important for us. These markets not only help us reach new people but also allow us to reconnect with loyal customers who keep coming back. Seeing the growth through word of mouth and community support has been incredible.
We’re so grateful for this journey and the chance to share our passion with you.
Warmly,
